Quiescence
November's soft, sad, silken rains
Over silent hills and muted plains
Quench Autumn fires and whisper strains
Of gentle acquiescence.
November's sere, still, somber days
From harvest gold to holly sprays
Quiet trembling hands; the healed heart prays
In humble renascence.
Emergence
Slowly, slowly, dark subsides-
Serrated skyline still asleep
Slumbers under faint blue light
That stains the East above the trees.Oh, let us sleep; too soon we wake
To daylight's ruthless searching ray-
Oh, let us dream in wooded dusk,
Shade well our thoughts the sun would flay. The rising light too bright will seem
For clinging eyelids loath to part,
And trees too stark against the sky
Form portents of day's stern reality.
